Only four ascospores are detected in most of the mature asci, confirming that JP98.111-Sk^K carries the Sk^K allele. The asterisk denotes an ascus where there appears to be five ascospores. Two possible explanations are that this 5th ascospore escaped killing, or it strayed from another ascus during the dissection and imaging process. (B) Asci from a cross of progeny JP98.111-Sk^K with BM43.31-Sk^K. Eight ascospores can be detected in most of the mature asci, again confirming that progeny JP98.111-Sk^K carries the Sk^K allele.
