Values are means of n = 4 biological replicates (±SE) and denote the area under the post‐illumination bursts, normalized to the leaf area. Because the proton transfer reaction time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer has no isomeric separation capability and signals at several mass‐to‐charge ratios (m/z) correspond to fragments of more than one GLV, assigning sensitivities to certain ion signals is difficult. The emissions are therefore given in normalized counts per second per squared centimetre leaf area [ncps cm−2 Leaf area]. Refer to the main text for the assignment of molecules to m/z ratios. Statistical results are given in Supporting Information Table S1.

IE, isoprene‐emitting; NE, isoprene non‐emitting; AC, ambient control; EC, elevated control; CS, chronic stress; PS, periodic stress; CSr, chronic stress recovery; PSr, periodic stress recovery.
