Decomposition: Axial post-mortem CT image through the abdomen (on lung window settings) demonstrates marked post-mortem small and large bowel dilatation in a young male patient due to putrefactive gas formation. There is also putrefactive intravascular gas within the abdominal aorta (thick arrow) and inferior vena cava (thin arrow) as well as in relation to the paraspinal and paravertebral soft tissues.
