Mean percentage of targets recalled after each block for each of the four experiments. In Experiment 1, there was no difference in object recall between memorization and search blocks. In Experiment 2, in spite of a significant increase in overall recall from Experiment 1, there was still no difference between the two conditions. In Experiment 3, there was a trend for higher recall rates after a search block. In Experiment 4, recall following the search block was significantly higher than following memorization. Error bars reflect standard errors of the mean.
