Table 1. Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria.

Inclusion criteria
1. Lumbar radiating pain (indicated by at least two of the following symptoms)
Dermatomal pain distribution (LANSS ≥ 12)
Increased leg pain on coughing, sneezing, straining
Decreased muscle strength
Sensory loss or reflex loss
Positive straight leg raising test with positive relief test
2. Pain intensity needing medication (visual analogue scale > 3)
Exclusion criteria
1. Indication for surgical intervention
2. Previously underwent spinal surgery
3. Pregnant
4. Pending worker's compensation or other secondary gain
5. Unable to follow (planned to move)
6. Contraindication of the intended medication
7. Severe coexisting illness (renal failure, upper gastrointestinal bleeding or major psychiatric diseases)
