EPS matrix in single- and dual-species biofilms. Biofilms (10-h old) were stained with two fluorescent dyes: The lectin concanavalin A labelled with AlexaFluor 488 binds specifically to termical sugar moieties of glycans and fluoresces green. The dye DAPI (4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) binds to DNA and fluoresces blue. Green and blue fluorescence are shown separately (left and middle panel) and overlaid.
