Mammosphere cultures derived from MDA-MB-231 cells are enriched in cells expressing stem cell markers. MDA-MB-231cells and derived mammospheres were double immunolabeled using, (A) anti-CD44/anti-CD24 and, (B) anti-Sox2/anti-CD49f antibodies. (C) Flow cytometry analysis of CD44/CD24 markers revealed a 3.96% presence of cells with the CD44+/CD24−/low phenotype in the MDA-MB-231 cells, which increased 8-fold (31.2%) in the mammosphere cultures.
