Severity of ego-dystonic masturbation was defined according to Structured Interview on Erectile Dysfunction items related to masturbation determined as the mathematical product of the frequency of masturbation episodes and the sense of guilt after masturbation. Therefore, subjects were categorized according to the product scores of the two variables as 0, 1, 3, 4, 6, or 9. Because of the small number of subjects reporting a score of 9, this group was composed of subjects with a score equal to or higher than 6. MSQ = Middlesex Hospital Questionnaire.
