Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections of the decalcified iliac crest biopsy specimens show increased and thickened trabeculae that are not well demarcated from cortical bone (A). The limited amounts of marrow present show trilineage hematopoiesis (B,C). A few morphologically unremarkable osteoclasts are present (B, arrows). Osteoblasts are also present with normal morphology (C, asterix). Examination of the nondecalcified biopsy under fluorescence demonstrates well-defined double tetracycline labels, here seen under a layer of osteoid (D, yellow bands between arrows).
