High resolution images of CM-DiI, FM 1–43FX and SP-DiI (as seen in Fig. 3b, f, j) reveal (a) CM-DiI has the sharpest traces while (b) FM 1–43FX has the strongest overall fluorescence (excitation laser power was 1.25 mW in both).
