The homogenate of the salivary glands (equivalent to 10 pairs of salivary glands) with PBS (pH 7.2) was mixed with P. berghei-infected blood. The number of exflagellation bodies per 4 fields (approximately 6,000 RBC) was counted. An experiment using PBS (pH 7.2) was the negative control (n = 4 experiments, ***: P < 0.0001, calculated by the Student’s t-test).
