Data are presented as the means (standard deviation). Chi-square tests and Student’s t-test were used to determine significant differences in the frequencies of categories and differences in continuous variables, respectively, between the groups. TC, LDL-C and Apo-B were significantly lower in the OPVHs patients compared to the CN (p < 0.05). Regarding age, OPVHs patients were significantly older than the CN. It should be noted that the Gen, CS, DM, CAU, and Htn had no significant differences. Abbreviations are as follows: OPVHs, occipital periventricular hyperintensities; CN, healthy controls, Gen, gender; CS, current smoking; CAU, current alcohol use, Htn, hypertension; DM, diabetes mellitus; TC, total cholesterol; TG, triglyceride; LDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol; HDL-C, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol; UA, uric acid; Apo-A1, apolipoprotein-A1; and Apo-B, apolipoprotein-B; 1, 2, *denote chi-square test, Student’s t-test and p < 0.05, respectively.
