In total 38,499 patients met the inclusion criteria. A prehospital cardiac arrest with subsequent CPR was observed in 1855 patients. These patients had return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and were transported to a hospital; the number of cases with attempted but unsuccessful CPR is not documented in the TR-DGU®. Among these cases, 944 patients did not require further cardiac massage in the ER while 911 cases again received CPR in the ER. The total number of patients who required CPR in the ER was 2108 (5.5 % of all admitted patients). Among them were 1197 patients (3.1 %) who were only resuscitated in the ER.
