Overall, infants spent a significantly greater proportion of time scanning the eyes than the mouth (p < .001), and this varied as a function of emotional expression (p < .001). For the eye region, infants showed greater attention for fearful faces than happy faces. For the mouth region, infants showed greater attention for happy faces than both neutral and fearful faces.
