Occurrence of anaerobic, nitrate-dependent Fe(II) oxidation by Pseudogulbenkiania sp. strain NH8B. Washed cells (5 × 107 cells) were inoculated into anoxic basal medium supplemented with 10 mM FeCl2 and 5 mM NaNO3, and incubated under anoxic conditions at 30°C for 10 d. Legends: Concentrations of Fe(II) ( Inline graphic), Fe(III) (○), NO3 ( Inline graphic), and NO2 (△). The mean ± SD is shown.
