Bacterial VOCs induce the expression of strategy I marker genes.

Quantitative RT‐PCR analysis of (a) MYB72 and (b) FRO2 and IRT1 transcripts in the roots of Arabidopsis Col‐0 seedlings upon exposure to P. simiae WCS417 VOCs. Gene expression was normalized to that of ACTIN7. Twelve‐day‐old seedlings were exposed to WCS417 VOCs in a split‐plate assay, and samples were collected for gene expression analysis 2 days after treatment. Values are means ± SD of three replicates. Asterisks indicate statistically significant differences compared with mock‐treated roots (Student's t test; P < 0.05).
