Colony forming units (CFU) of E. faecalis, E. coli and C. albicans were determined after treatment with 50 μg/ml Aβ1-40, Aβ1-42 and Aβ3p-42 for 6 h (24 h for Candida) by plating the cultures on agar plates and incubating for 24 h (A–C). The proliferation of the bacteria incubated with the indicated Aβ peptides at a concentration of 6.25 μg/ml (black) or 3.13 μg/ml (grey) was assessed by the Alamar Blue assay after 6 h (D,E). The proliferation of C. albicans was assessed by turbidimetry after incubation for 24 h (E). The results are expressed relative to untreated cultures and are depicted in a scatter plot together with the median and interquartile range. Asterisks indicate significant differences calculated by the Friedman test followed by Dunn’s post-hoc test. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001.
