(a) In HCT-116, BG-4 promoted apoptosis by increasing Bax:Bcl-2 ratio leading to reduced expression of XIAP and increased expression of caspase-3. (b) In HT-29, BG-4 promoted apoptosis by increasing Bax:Bcl-2 ratio leading to increased expression of caspase-3 without significantly affecting XIAP expression. (c) In HCT-116, BG-4 significantly reduced the expression of CDK2 without affecting the expression of p21. (d) In HT-29, BG-4 increased the expression of p21 leading to reduced expression of CDK2. All analyses were done in at least three independent replicates and significance are indicated by *(P < 0.05), **(P < 0.01) and ***(P < 0.0001).
