Using different geometries for the linear coupling elements leads to different effective spring stiffnesses, which greatly affect the width and velocity of the propagating pulse. The stiffnesses were measured using an Instron 5566 in displacement control with a rate of 2 mm/min. The measured stiffnesses of the linear elements shown here were measured to vary from 30 to 2,100 N/m.
