Four different zones were anatomically analyzed in detail (blue circles): (Z₁) vegetative shoot, (Z₂) upper part of the pedicel, (Z₃) transition zone between vegetative shoot and pedicel, and (Z₄) basal part of the pedicel. The ice barrier tissue refers to both, zone 3 and 4. Black bar = 1 mm.
