Bromine enrichment follows the NGRIP δ¹⁸O temperature paleoproxy profile during abrupt climate changes in the glacial. The greatest Br_enr values observed in the Holocene (panel a) occur during the Holocene Climate Optimum and not in the most recent samples. In the glacial (panel b), consistently lower Br_enr values are observed, corresponding to a greater extent of multi-year sea ice in the Canadian Arctic. Bromine enrichment does not closely follow 65°N summer solstice insolation⁴⁵. Note the scales are identical in both panels.
