Effect of bacterial infection on peritoneal leukocyte populations. Mice were injected intraperitoneally with Staphylococcus aureus (8325-4, 556, 392) or Escherichia coli (MG1655, 676, 127). After 24 h, peritoneal lavage was performed and the (A) number of total cells was quantified; differential counting of mast cells (B), eosinophils (C), neutrophils (D), macrophages (E), and lymphocytes (F) was performed after May-Grünwald/Giemsa staining of cytospin slides.
