North American (n = 216) and European (n = 126) BCAR sequences with known sampling date were combined with BCAR sequences from the Caribbean (n = 258), BPANDEMIC sequences (n = 50) the US and France and subtype D sequences (n = 10) from the DRC. Branches of trees reconstructed from subsets 1 (a), 2 (b), and 3 (c) are colored according to the most probable location state (see Table S3) of their descendent nodes as indicated in the legend (bottom left). Colored boxes indicate the positions of major (n ≥ 10) BCAR clades detected outside the Caribbean. Branch lengths are depicted in units of time (years). The trees were automatically rooted under the assumption of a relaxed molecular clock.
