Quantitative assessment of bacteria probe cytotoxicity to (A) 3T3 fibroblasts and (B) Raw 264.7 macrophages using MTS assay; (C) In vitro investigation of the binding affinity of the bacteria probes and control probes to bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus (1.6 × 108 CFU/ml) were incubated with different concentrations of probes (12.5, 25, 50, 100, and 200 µg/ml) for 30 minutes and followed with 3× wash of sterile PBS. The fluorescence intensities of bacteria-bound probes were then determined using a fluorescent plate reader.
