FGF21 plasma levels and hepatic mRNA expression in obese mice and after weight loss induced by RYGB or caloric restriction. Fasting plasma concentrations and hepatic mRNA expression of FGF21 were measured in high-fat diet-induced obese mice subjected to sham surgery (Sham, n = 4), RYGB (n = 4), or caloric restriction to match body weight of RYGB mice (WM, n = 4). For comparison, fasting plasma levels of FGF21 are also shown for low-fat fed mice (n = 18). Bars that do not share the same letters are significantly different from each other (p < 0.05, based on ANOVA, followed by Bonferroni-corrected multiple comparison tests).
