Prevalent health conditions consisted of ever being told by a doctor that you have: diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, or arthritis.

Disability was defined as reported difficulty in performing at least one of the seven basic activities of daily living (i.e. eating, bathing, grooming, walking, dressing, transferring in and out of bed, and using the toilet).
