FIG 2

Oxidative stress in (A) Fe-limited cultures and (B) Fe-replete cultures as detected by the fluorescence-based assay for reactive oxygen species (ROS). Fluorescein diacetate (H2DCFDA) was used to detect intracellular ROS in cells grown at different dilution rates. Increased levels of ROS are indicated by shifts to the right along the x axis. Histograms are arranged according to increasing dilution rates, with the lowest dilution rate (0.07 per day [d−1]) at the top and the highest dilution rate (0.45 d−1) at the bottom.
