Relationship between leg aerobic energy turnover and the rate of heat transfer from the leg to the body core, within the leg and the heat equivalent of power output. Data are means ± SEM for 12 subjects. Note that heat transfer within the leg represented ∼60% of the leg aerobic energy turnover during each exercise stage. Heat transfer within the leg will be higher when accounting for the anaerobic heat production during moderate and high exercise intensities, which could not be quantified in this study.
