Odorant response in normal Ringer’s and in (longer-exposure) low-NaCl Ringer’s. Same experiment as in Fig. 8 but includes a longer exposure (several minutes) to low-NaCl Ringer’s to allow the intraciliary ion concentrations to reach equilibrium. The olfactory response is elicited by a 30-ms pulse of 3 mM (+)-limonene first in normal Ringer’s (black trace), then in low-NaCl Ringer’s (NaCl concentration halved) for less than 10 s (red trace), and once more for >60 s (blue trace), and then finally back to normal Ringer’s (gray trace). Each trace is the average of three stimulus trials except for gray trace (single trial). No separation of CNG and Cl currents is carried out because it is too involved and time consuming under the solution conditions.
