Supplementing nutrients limits CR and ER. Seedlings of A. thaliana Col-0 and LA-1 are grown on plates containing either: (i) 0.10xMS with the indicated nutrient added (+) using MS basal salts to yield 1XMS or (ii) 1xMS with nitrogen and phosphorus content reduced to 0.1xMS equivalent (-N,-P). Lateral root number was scored after 18 d and the results expressed as the mean +/− one standard deviation (n = 30). White SOLO, Light Gray: Accession-resolution (ER, 2 seedlings of the same accession), and Dark gray: Conspecific-resolution (CR, 2 seedlings of different accessions).
