Asap is necessary for cleavage furrow ingression. Live imaging of the plasma membrane marker GAP43-mCherry during the four cycles of syncytial division preceding cellularization. Apical surface views show the formation of PM caps above nuclei at interphase of each cycle. Side views show the subsequent ingression of furrows from these caps. Caps form with either control or Asap RNAi, although caps become more scattered with Asap RNAi. Furrows ingress with control RNAi (arrowheads; four of four embryos) but not with Asap RNAi (four of six embryos showed no ingression, and two of six embryos showed partial ingression).
