Antimicrobial activity of stents in the test and control groups was evaluated at 1 day, and 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24 weeks, after placement. The test was performed by seeding at the initial time only or at weekly intervals. The result showed a significant difference in antimicrobial activity over time in the silicone polymer membranes with and without Ag-P. The test group showed 99.9% antimicrobial activity against E. coli and K. pneumoniae over 24 weeks. In contrast, antimicrobial activity was decreased dramatically after 2 weeks in the control group (A). Images for inoculation of culture media also showed marked antibacterial activity in the test group (B).
