We assessed phylotype richness (observed phylotypes) (A and C) as well as overall diversity using the inverse Simpson index (1/D) (B and D). Each symbol corresponds to an individual sample. The black line represents the mean abundance. Means that were statistically different from each other between SSTI and non-SSTI or S. aureus positive (+) or negative (−) samples were determined using ANOVA. Significant P values (P < 0.05) are indicated on the graphs.
