Table 1.
Mitral Stenosis Qualitative Wilkins Score
| Score | Leaflet mobility | Valve thickening | Calcification | Subvalvular thickening |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Highly mobile | Near normal (4–5 mm) | Single area of brightness | Minimal chordal thickening |
| 2 | Reduced mobility | Thickened tips | Scattered areas at leaflet margins | Chordal thickening up to one-third |
| 3 | Basal leaflet motion only | Entire leaflet thickened (5–8 mm) | Brightness extends to midleaflets | Distal third of chordae thickening |
| 4 | Minimal motion | Marked leaflet thickening (>8–10 mm) | Extensive leaflet brightness | Extensive thickening to pap muscle |
The mitral valve morphology is considered favorable if the mitral echocardiographic score is ≤8.
Wilkins score = Leaflet Mobility + Valve Thickening + Calcification + Subvalvular Thickening.
