Time dependent killing of S. aureus stationary phase bacteria. (A) Effects of starvation (3% NaCl) on survival kinetics of S. aureus USA500, ΔctaB mutant and complemented strain. Results are representative of three independent experiments. (B,C) Persister assay with antibiotics. Strains were treated with (B) 20 μg/ml ciprofloxacin or (C) 50 μg/ml levofloxacin for 6 days. The limit of detection was 100 CFU/ml throughout all killing experiments. Results are representative of three independent experiments.
