Proposed putative mechanisms that underlie the protective action of mNT deficiency against experimental alcoholic steatohepatitis in mice. Following chronic ethanol administration, mNT deficiency orchestrates induction of adiponectin in adipose and ileum Fgf15 in mice. Elevated adiponectin and Fgf15 subsequently work in concert to signal the liver and act as fine-tuning regulators of hepatic inflammation in an autocrine/paracrine fashion, which, in turn, alleviates experimental alcoholic steatohepatitis in mice.
