Phenotypic analysis of the spoVA mutations in C. sporogenes. C. sporogenes wild type and spoVAC, spoVAD, and spoVAE mutants were grown anaerobically at 37°C for 72 h, to allow spore formation. Samples were then heated (80°C, 15 min), serially diluted in 0.85% saline, and plated on to tryptone-yeast-glucose medium agar before incubation anaerobically (37°C, 72 h). Data presented represent the colony-forming units/ml from triplicate plates, with error bars representing the standard deviation of the mean.
