Histological evaluation was performed on two rats per each group and was scored semi-quantitatively from − to +++ (−, none; +, mild; ++, moderate; +++, severe). Glomerular evaluation was performed on 30 glomeruli per section and the presence of segmental and global glomerulosclerosis was quantified. Representative histological images are shown in Figure 5.
