A femur from each of the 18 femoral pairs is trimmed at the head-neck junction while its contralateral side remains intact. Three groups are created based on the resection depth (3 mm, 6 mm and 9 mm) (arrows). The grey shapes correspond to the segments from the CT images of resected femurs. They were mirrored and superimposed to the segments of their contralateral sides in red. The femurs of one pair are not strictly identical, which explains why more than just the resection appears red.
