Pro-inflammatory profile of extracellular cytokines in vivo in dense breast tissue of 39 postmenopausal women, attending the regular mammography-screening program who underwent microdialysis. On their regular screening mammograms the breast were categorized as either dense or nondense and thereafter the women were invited to participate in the study as described in the Materials and Methods. Women with dense breasts (n = 20) are depicted in red; one microdialysis catheter was inserted into the left breast (dense breast) and another into abdominal subcutaneous fat (dense fat). Women categorized as nondense (n = 19) are depicted in yellow; one microdialysis catheter was inserted into the left breast (nondense breast) and another into abdominal subcutaneous fat (nondense fat).
