DUX4 acts by both activating and suppressing target genes. (A) Flow chart describing the filtering of probes to identify genes whose expression was modified by DUX4 constructs and DUX4c. (B) Global transcriptomic analysis of microarray assays of cells expressing DUX4 constructs (compared to control) demonstrates correlations between differential expression t-values. Positive correlations were detected between DUX4 and tMALDUX4–VP16 gene sets and between DUX4 and DUX4c gene sets. Lack of anti-correlation between DUX4 and tMALDUX4–ERD gene sets indicates that DUX4 also suppresses transcription of some target genes.
