Normalized hydropathy plots for hVDAC-2 WT and W75,86,160,221F (Trp-less) proteins. Hydropathy plots were made using the Wimley-White interfacial scale (dark blue, [47]), Kyte & Doolittle plot (dark green, [48]) and transmembrane tendency scale (purple, [49]) with a window size of 9. Regions corresponding to the β-strands are shaded in grey, and the N-terminal helix (residues 17–29) is indicated as cyan. Solid red drop lines mark positions 75, 86, 160 and 221. Residues in the vicinity of position 160 show the highest partition energy, and also lie in a hydrophobic zone.
