FIGURE 4. — Systemic inactivation of the Alox15 gene normalized the impaired motility characteristics of sperm induced by heterozygous knock-in of the dysfunctional Gpx4 allele (Sec46Ala-Gpx4^+/−). Sperm were extracted from the epididymal cauda of male Sec46Ala-Gpx4^+/−+Alox15^+/+ and Sec46Ala-Gpx4^+/−+Alox15^−/− mice, and their motility characteristics were determined as described under “Materials and Methods.” For this image the percentage of total (panel A), progressive (panel B), and rapid motility (panel C) was quantified. For each genotype the sperm of five individuals were evaluated. Stars indicate significant (p < 0.05) differences between the experimental groups.
