Der p I and Der p II antigens share the ability of house dust mite (HDM) to sustain eosinophil surface expression of MHC class II and co‐stimulatory molecules. Comparison of the effects of incubation with the purified allergens Der p I or Der p II, or the allergen extract HDM, on numbers of eosinophils that express HLA‐DR\DP\DQ (a), CD40 (b), CD80 (c) and CD86 (d) after 5 days of culture. Results are expressed as median and interquartile range (IQR) of % eosinophils positive for each marker from six independent experiments (*P < 0·01, Mann–Whitney U‐test with Bonferroni correction).
