The ROIs specify both the direction and temporal extent of an omnibus a priori hypothesis to be tested in an independent experiment. (B) Experimental analysis on N = 6 independent subjects using full-field inference (i.e., had no ROIs been selected); “SPM{t}” denotes the t value. The experimental differences between Normal and Fast are insufficiently large to reject the full-field null hypothesis (because the t value fails to traverse the critical threshold—depicted in red—at α = 0.05). (C) Experimental analysis using ROI-based inference: the omnibus ROI-based null hypothesis is rejected.
