In sepsis, NLRP3 inflammasome activation in mouse CMs is reduced in absence of either C5aR1 or C5aR2. Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome components NLRP3 (A), caspase-1 (B), and ASC (C), as well as IL-β (D), in mouse CMs before (not shown) and 16 h after CLP. In these studies, qRT-PCR was used in LV heart homogenates from WT, and C5aR1^−/− or C5aR2^−/−, 16 h after CLP.
