Effect of the gD-null mutation on projection formation at the plasma membrane in HSV-1-infected cells. (A) Vero cells were mock infected or infected with wild-type HSV-1(F), F-BAC gD−, or F-BAC gD−-repair at an MOI of 5, harvested at 18 h postinfection, lysed, and analyzed by immunoblotting with antibodies against the indicated proteins. (B) Vero cells were mock infected or infected with wild-type HSV-1(F), F-BAC gD−, or F-BAC gD−-repair at an MOI of 5, fixed at 18 h postinfection, and examined by transmission electron microscopy.
