The effect of paint treatment on meral spot reflectance (mean ± s.d.) in Neogonodactylus oerstedii. Painted stomatopods (grey line) had reduced UV reflectance (300–400 nm) and increased reflectance in the visible and near infrared (400–800 nm) wavelengths compared with controls (purple line), to maintain similar overall luminance between treatments.
