The dual hierarchy model (see Perlovsky, 2006a). Language and cognition are organized into approximate dual hierarchy. Every representation has two parts, cognitive and language. Learning language is grounded in the surrounding language throughout the hierarchy. Cognitive hierarchy is grounded in experience only at the very “bottom”; the cognitive hierarchy is constructed from experience guided by language.
