CD8+ T cells were isolated and rested in vitro for 0–3 d, stained with 1 class I HIV-specific tetramer and with annexin V, and measured by polychromatic flow cytometry. Late apoptotic/necrotic cells were excluded by gating out cells that were positive for the dead cell dye 7AAD. (A) Annexin V binding by the total CD8 population.
